New Favorite!!
I go through new favorites like going through clothes in a week. One of my best friends gave me a CD featuring of all of Christina Grimmie's new songs, and she is amazing. But this one in particular is my favorite and a song I keep singing. Love it!

Uncharacteristic For Me...
In case you haven't noticed, it's pretty uncharacteristic for me to recommend Hip-Hop/Rap songs. Actually, I think I've only dedicated two posts to this music genre since starting this blog. But, for some odd reason, I really enjoy today's song and have decided to showcase it (although it's not a discovery download per se....I'm sure it's quite popular already, but wonderful nonetheless).
What's even more uncharacteristic is that it's a Kanye West song. All of my friends will attest that I dislike Kanye West with a passion (because of his music - not his past indiscretions). In all honesty, I probably won't like any of the other songs from their upcoming album. The sole appeal for this song is Otis Redding (in case you haven't noticed with the throwbacks and Marlena Shaw on August's favorites - I'm a sucker for old school songs). Regardless, it's definitely a song worth giving a try.

Local Music!!!
So, to make a long story short, I recently discovered this band whose hometown happens to be my hometown. And to make things even better, they were featured on one or two Warped Tour spots. Why it took me this long to discover them, I have no idea. But, as they say...better late than never. I actually find their music quite good (though I'm finding out that most Pop Rock starts to sound exactly alike after a while). To show my enthusiasm, I have named them today's song of the day:

Cover of the Week!!
So, I love musicals, whether it's Broadway or just a box office musical. They're amazing and perfect for singing in your car so you can pretend you're on Broadway. And I love Grease. I must admit, I'll watch the whole movie just to see the last ten minutes when Sandy goes all bad ass chick and sings this song with Danny. It's a classic. So, naturally I love the song. But as I was watching So You Think You Can Dance last week, one of the dancers did their solo to this cover, and I must say, it's fabulous and rivals the original. Actually, I'll find a lot of fabulous covers just by watching this show. Sometimes, I'll even rewind the show in Tivo to see the name of the song I just heard and will jot it down on paper or in my phone, so I can purchase it later. Hey, it's a small price to pay to have an extensive and eclectic music collection :)

I Can't Stop Partying, Partying
Bahahaha! Post title is lyrics to a Weezer song, which is fantastic by the way. But these are the lyrics that I seem to think of when I see the name of the today's song:
Heard this song in the movie trailer for Shark Night (which btw, I can't decide if I want to see. On one hand, a shark movie in 3D could be pretty sweet, but on the other hand, it's been done before. Once you've seen one shark movie, you've seen them all essentially. Hmm...) Anyways, I started jamming out to the song during the movie trailer. Oddly thought the song was by Cobra Starship, which clearly it is not ,and I was foolish to think this. Looked it up when I got home, and viola...it's Sean Kingston. Strangely enough, I'm not a huge Sean Kingston Fan, but this song is pretty catchy and upbeat. Gotta love a good dance tune :)

New Favorite!!!

Throwback Thursday:
I actually don't recall this song from back in the day. But I heard it on Spring Break and fell in love. And then when I got home from school one day, the song was playing on our 90s music channel on cable. Guess, it is a classic then. Either way, love it!
Edit: "When I got home from school?!?!?!" What am I 12? Technically it was from school, but to make myself sound like the whole 23 years old I am, what I had meant to say was "when I got home from class." Ah, much better!

An Oldie
So, today's song is kinda old. I've had it for at least 3 years. But I wouldn't classify it as a throwback because for a song to be a throwback, it should be a song recognized by most people in my opinion. And I highly doubt this song has been discovered by many. Anyways, I heard it on the way to work this morning and remembered how much I love it. Sometimes it's good to have a slow, mellow, song to reflect on. So enjoy:

Two For Tuesday
So given that I had been slacking last week, to make up for my lack of posts, I've decided to post two songs today. And they have a common theme: Hip-Hop/R&B. I'm not a huge fan of such genres and I've rarely dedicated space to them in my blog. I predominately stick to Pop/Pop-Rock or covers that fall into these categories. But, I've found myself the fan of two songs that I normally wouldn't listen to:
I heard this song when I found myself in an unlikely/awkward predicament with some friends. So, with nothing better to do, I listened to the song and oddly liked it. It's got some pretty random beats in that are fun. And as told to me from the original DJ of this song: Wait for the female rapper at the end. She's ferocious.

Special Cover of the Week
I know, I know. I've been slacking on this Song of the Day blog. For once, I've actually been pretty busy at work. So, to make up for my slacking and having missed Friday's Cover of the Week, I've decided to post it today in a special edition. So without further delay, today's song of the day/cover of the week is:
I love when pop/hip-hop/r&b songs are turned into slower acoustic versions. It's pretty sweet. And I may like this version more than the original, which is a great feat for This Century considering I love M.I.A.'s version.

Hump Day!!!
It's hump day!!! Which means, only two more days to go before the weekend. Heck yes!! So what better way to celebrate than with an upbeat, make you wanna dance, song of the day:
Love it!!

Throwback Tuesday
A friend suggested that I occassionally include throwbacks in my blogs as songs of the day. So, I had decided on this one song (that will be named at a later occassion), but on the way to work today my iPod decided to play a different tune, one which is extremely hard to get out of your head, so I decided it would be appropiate to name it as song of the day:
It's been covered a lot by different people but I'm pretty sure this is the original one. And it's way throwback, throwback, but it's so catchy, you can't help but sing along and bop with the music :)

Free Music!!!
In conjunction with iTunes Discovery of the Week, today's song is:
Saw it last week, downloaded it and loved it. It's currently free on iTunes. I think it lasts til tomorrow so hurry :)

It's A Michael Jackson Kinda Day
I woke up this morning singing "Man in the Mirror." It's an amazing song. Listened to it on the way to work and "Hold My Hand," featuring Akon...another amazing song. Which only seems to mean that it's a Michael Jackson song kind of day. So, why not keep a theme going and make today's Cover of the Week...
So, not technically a Michael Jackson song, but the Jackson 5 wouldn't have been nearly as popular without Michael. And Colbie Caillat does this song amazing justice. By far one of the best Jackson 5 covers!

Behind the Curve
I generally pride myself in being up to date in music - discovering the Top 100 songs before they are played on the radio or finding great songs by great bands that no one has ever heard of. But, apparently, I've been behind the curve some. I heard this song this past weekend, jotted down the lyrics, and looked it up last night. I told a friend about this song and their response: "I've had this song for years." Turns out that this song was released at least 4 years ago. Gah!! I could've been listing to this song, all this time. Geez! But, the important thing is I have it now, and despite it being so old, I'm sharing it because if I haven't come across it, a great majority of others probably hasn't either. So without further delay, today's song is:
I do believe this may replace my current new favorite "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People. Hmmmm....

A Summer Anthem:
Eh, it's already been featured on the radio, but I LOVE it and don't think think it's nearly popular enough. Listen to lyrics. It's definitely a summer anthem/favorite.

Hot Chelllllle Raaaaaaeeeee!!!
I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday weekend. After a much needed break, I'm back with new songs and July's favorites. Today's discovery...
I absolutely love their song "Tonight, Tonight." It's such a feel good song. But, since that song is already on the radio, it's not much a new discovery. But since it's soooooo amazing, I felt the need to share other songs by Hot Chelle Rae. I discovered this song last summer and fell in love with it. I'm pretty excited about the other songs that this band will be producing.
P.S. It's a lot of fun to shout their name out, hence the inspiration behind the post's name.

Happy Friday!!!
I have officially decided to make Fridays the "Cover of the Week" day. There are so many covers out there by amazing up and coming bands, it's hard not to share with others. And in honor of The Voice's cover of "Man in the Mirror" by Adam and Javier, I've decided that today's cover is...
Adam and Javier did a good job, but this version is absolutely perfect. It's hard to beat Michael Jackson, but I think this cover holds its own. And the original song is so amazing, that I usually end up putting this song on repeat on my iPod :)

I'm Starving and Bored At Work, So Today's Song Is...
I'm not sure how I came about this song. But, it's absolutely wonderful. It's such a mellow, feel good, I-wanna-lay-on-the-beach-all-day song. Actually, his entire playlist on YouTube is filled with such wonderfulness. I'm currently awaiting such wonderfulness to hit iTunes so I can purchase it immediately :)

The Lyrics of the Day:
"Straight out of the O.C. Bitches think they know me. Everyone they go it's like 'O.M.G. it's you and me.'"
Not really the song of the day, but for some reason I can't get these lyrics out of my head, so I had to share.
In Honor of a Dear Friend
One of my best friends has been following this blog lately and she recently gave me some suggestions of songs I might like. One song being "Love Letter" by Shwayze. I listened to it and eh, it was ok. Not one of my favorites, not a song I would immediately download. But, that's not to say I don't like Shwayze. I actually love a lot of his songs, especially "Corona and Lime." And I recently discovered another song by him that I love, which brings me to today's song of the day:
It's got a fun beat to it and I find the lyrics to be slightly amazing. My favorite line being:
"She tastes like cigarettes and alcohol, up all night on aderol."
With lyrics like that, what's not to love?

An Old Favorite....
iTunes (are you seeing a trend in the role that iTunes plays in my discoveries) introduced this song to me months ago (I'm thinking November 2010), so it's not really a new discovery for me. Perhaps it's a cover? I'm not entirely sure because the majority of Tyler's other songs are covers, so I'm not sure if this is an original or a cover of a song that I've never heard of. Nevertheless, it is amazing. I rocked out to it to work this morning, and just had to share :)

The Song I Can't Seem To Get Out Of My Head
I saw this song on i Tunes' Top 100. I listened to it once, thought to myself "Oh, it's ok. I'm not sure if I love it." Listened to it a second time about a week later, thought to myself "Eh. Not sure if it is download worthy."
But then, I couldn't get the melody out of my head. So a few days later, I downloaded it. Now every time that I turn my computer on, I HAVE to listen to this song. And then I just can't seem to get it out of my head. It's fairly amazing, so just give it a chance and it'll grow on you too :)

The Cover of the Week...
I absolutely love cover songs, especially when the cover artist gives the song its own flair rather than simply redoing it (side note: this is particularly true when an artist turns a fast tempo song into an acoustic hit. Love it!). It never gets old for me. So, today's song (and the cover of the week) is...
Ok, so maybe Glee doesn't really count as a cover. It's more of a soundtrack/musical version. But, they're still turning classics into their own. And maybe this doesn't really count as a new discovery. Glee's version was released months ago when it aired on one of their episodes. And to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Rent. But, the awesomeness of Pandora played the original version of "Take Me Or Leave Me" and I feel in love. And then I heard Glee's version and I feel in love even more. And now, I can't seem to get it out of my head.
"Take me for who I am, not what I was meant to be. And if you give a damn. Take me baby or leave me."

And Today's Song Is...
I must admit, at first I absolutely hated The Pretty Reckless. Perhaps it's because their music sounds a little darker than I care for or maybe it's because my hatred for Taylor Momsen's character Jenny Humpfrey on Gossip Girl runs deeper than I ever thought it would (I mean seriously, she does nothing but homewreck on the show). But, at the request of a friend, I gave this song a chance.
And now, it's one of my new favorites :)

The First Official Song of The Day
My first discovery:
It's pretty sweet to hear Steven Tyler releasing new songs. Love it!!
How It All Began
I've officially done it! I've been saying for two years that I wanted to start blogging. For a brief two days, I started a blog with two official posts. Sadly, I cannot remember the blog's name or the email address that I gave to the blog. But with all this free time I have at my summer internship, I've decided to carry out my goals. And so I've chosen to start (and continually update) a Song of the Day blog.
I have an infinity for music. Whether it's stealing music from my friends, searching for songs I've heard in movies or tv shows, or simply searching on iTunes for the newest bands and the unheard gems of the music world. So, why should I keep all of these wonders to myself? Why not share them with the rest of the world (or the two or three people who happen to stumble upon this blog)?
